What is a noxious weed?

A weed that is out of place, not native to an area, that cuts production of our agriculture products, and if left unattended will lower property values.

What is the purpose of the County Noxious Weed Department?

The department is governed by the State Department of Agriculture, Plant Health Division . The Kansas Noxious Weed Law must be followed.

The duties of the department director are:

  • enforce the noxious weed laws
  • to cost share chemicals for noxious weeds (using tax payer dollars to the taxpayers advantage)
  • annual management plans
  • annual weed eradication reports and noxious weed surveys of the county submitted to the state and commissioners
  • offer consultation and assistance for methods in controlling noxious weeds
  • controlling noxious weeds on all county roadsides
  • making sure that all chemicals purchases are for noxious weed infestations only
  • administering a budget that serves the people needs, among other numerous tasks
